TURTLE BUNBURY – ‘REFUGEES, MIDWIFES & ENGINEERS IN 18th CENTURY IRELAND’

Focussing on some topics of very local interest, Turtle will look at disparate figures connected to Portarlington, including some of the Huguenot community, the man who built the Rotunda Hospital and a remarkable engineer.

Turtle Bunbury is a best-selling author, historian and TV presenter based in Ireland. He appeared on the 2018 US series of ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’. His next book, ‘Ireland’s Forgotten Past’, will be published in 2020. Turtle’s previous books include ‘Easter Dawn – The 1916 Rising’ (2015), ‘The Glorious Madness – Tales of the Irish & the Great War’ (short-listed for Best Irish-published Book of the Year 2014), the award-winning ‘Vanishing Ireland’ series and ‘1847 – A Chronicle of Genius, Generosity & Savagery’, which was described by the Oscar-nominated film director Lenny Abrahamson as “vivid, surprising and hugely entertaining.” A past winner of Ireland’s Long-Haul Travel Journalist of the Year Award, his work has been published in National Geographic Traveler, The Daily Beast, The World of Interiors, Playboy, The Financial Times and Vogue Living.
